May 6, 2009 - The Senate Judiciary Committee held its first Department of Homeland Security oversight hearing of the 111th Congress. This was the first appearance by Secretary Janet Napolitano before the Committee. One of the many topics discussed was immigration and enforcement.

Chairman Patrick Leahy commented that he believes the Department of Homeland Security will support the EB-5 Regional Center Program. He said, ‘this program has resulted in billions of dollars in foreign investment and the creation of thousands of American jobs in communities across the country.’ He went on to recommend the Congress make this a permanent program.

May 2009 - Members of IIUSA (Invest in USA), an EB-5 trade association of regional centers, recently met with Leon Fresco, staff director for the Senate Subcommittee for Immigration, Refuges and Border Security headed by Senator Charles Schumer. Mr. Fresco expressed his understanding of the need for long term or permanent authorization for the EB-5 program and believes Senator Schumer can help maneuver this through Congressional roadblocks.

You are always welcome to visit the Lake Buena Vista Resort and take a personal tour. We will also be attending numerous shows and expos, offering many networking opportunities.

Lake Buena Vista Resort’s EB-5 Project was very well received at the recent Beijing China Expo last month.

One of the next scheduled events we will attend is the SIMA Expo in Madrid Spain. Following that is the America Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) annual convention in Las Vegas. These are great opportunities for us to fully explain the EB-5 program, our project and answer your questions.

With the arrival of summer, we are looking forward to another busy season. Since opening the Pirate’s Plunge Aquatic Center last year, reviews have been spectacular. Kids love the pirate ship waterslide, and adults enjoy the poolside tiki bar, loungers and hammocks. Everyone seems quite happy.

As a result of our numerous seminars and expos, there have been quite a few foreign nationals booking property tours. Many people from China, India, Korea, United Kingdom, and India are planning trips in the next few weeks. We are very proud of our project and look forward to showing them around.

Also, booked in our meeting rooms for June is a statewide convention for Paychex. There are several family reunions scheduled at the Resort as well.

The Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores, just next door, have many special events going on this summer. Memorial Day and Father’s Day weekends, there will be sales throughout the center – a tent sale and a sidewalk sale as well as other specials. So, don’t be left out. Come join in the fun.
